Our Controls Engineers are responsible for working on multi-million dollar designs that support our array of businesses and wide variety of customers. Great ideas are encouraged and supported. Ingenuity is the main mechanism which supports our focus on quality, speed, and cost. They have hands on control automation experience and work with the Principals and the Senior Global Engineers to drive the standardization of designs across the global region in production data centers and resolve open technical issues in the controls space. As part of the team, you will work with highly motivated experts and innovators in the data center industry.

You will drive multiple projects, including multimillion dollar controls deployments and retrofitting legacy buildings. You will utilize the Amazon Leadership principles, they develop new processes or standards and test new innovations in the controls space and participate in the research and development of new technologies and designs applicable to our products or services.

You will also be required to create technical documentation for such projects and be relied on as a subject matter expert in the controls engineering field. At Amazon we highly support continued learning opportunities and focus on continued employee development.

At Amazon team work is absolutely necessary for us to accomplish our goals. You must be able to work within a team and depend on others to accomplish the required work. As an engineer at Amazon you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.

Amazon has a global presence. Travel will be necessary but shouldn’t be more than 30%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel will be necessary. Support could consist of working on international teams and could require developing schematic and design document packages.

Under the direction of an engineering manager, you the Global Controls Engineer:

  • Conceives, initiates and leads projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation and implementation.

  • Decompose complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions.

  • Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.

  • Development of strategic solutions which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements.

  • Provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSE’s), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans.

  • Maintain and host technical electrical forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of datacenter electrical systems.

  • Provide support and mentorship for the whole of the DCC engineering community.

Key job responsibilities

  • Capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions.

  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during innovation and research and development projects.

  • Drive standardization in the data center designs.

  • Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, white papers, wiring schematics and diagrams, and reports

  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.

  • Work with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges and collaborate with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures and countries.

  • Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate systems and equipment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, HVAC, or other related engineering degree. With cumulative 5-10 years of experience with electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, industrial HVAC.

  • Minimum 2 years’ of experience with one or more of the following products [Siemens: Apogee/Disego], [Honeywell: Building Controls/Trend], [Schneider Electric: PowerLogic/Struxureware], [Rockwell Automation: FactoryTalk, Tridium Niagra], [Eaton: Foreseer], [ABB: Decathalon], [Johnson Controls: Metasys Power User Level Windows Skill Set]

  • In depth understanding of critical data center electrical and mechanical equipment. As well as Good working knowledge of BIM and Revit

  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, carry new design concepts through exploration into deployment/construction, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.

  • An ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality, reliability, or maintainability

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience directly related to data center or mission critical facility design. Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, or regional equivalent.

  • Direct experience with the construction, operation, or maintenance of data centers.

  • Experience with fast track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects.

  • Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms.

  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA. Expert knowledge of BIM and Revit
