Key job responsibilities

Prioritize being a really great people manager:

Building, motivating, rewarding and coaching a diverse team of Data Engineers and Software Development Engineers is the most important part of this role. You will recruit and retain top talent and excel in day-to-day people and performance management tasks.

Lead your team from front:

Keep your technical skills current to contribute to architecture and design discussions. Help your team to evolve our service architecture with quality, robustness and Amazon sized scale as top priorities. You will regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.

Set a vision for your team and create product roadmaps:

Help your team sort out technical and product requirements and priorities. Use project management skills to deliver product roadmap items and other cross-team projects.

Delight your customers:

Internalize the challenges that your stake holders are facing and derive creative solutions which apply new and innovative technology. Your contributions would go a long way in driving the devices business.

About the team

DSDI (Devices & Services Data Intelligence) team develops and maintains a suite of applications and vast data infrastructure to support them. Finance professionals and consumers of financial data in other organizations use these applications to gather, access and analyze their data, apply financial modeling, extract business insights to take financial and operational decisions and perform various other functions crucial for running fast-growing Amazon's devices business.

We are creating next generation, state of art financial applications platform. Because of the easy availability of proven Machine Learning tools and algorithms, now we can take on automation tasks that were not possible earlier. The goal is to completely automate as many BI, planning and forecasting processes as possible and minimize manual interventions for the rest.

Sunnyvale, CA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of processing data with a massively parallel technology (such as Redshift, Teradata, Netezza, Spark or Hadoop based big data solution) experience

  • 5+ years of relational database technology (such as Redshift, Oracle, MySQL or MS SQL) experience

  • 8+ years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics (using ETL/ELT processes) experience

  • 8+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience managing a data or BI team

  • Experience communicating to senior management and customers verbally and in writing

  • Experience leading and influencing the data or BI strategy of your team or organization

  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR

  • Experience with AWS Tools and Technologies (Redshift, S3, EC2)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $153,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $264,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
