Amazon Software Development Manager, Item Relationships in Seattle, Washington

We are looking for outstanding Software Development Managers to lead Agile teams in Seattle. You will be delighting our customers through launching and growing initiatives for Amazon's global websites. Your team will own the business, technology and operations, giving you the responsibility and authority to ensure success.

You will be able to demonstrate skills in leadership, and impactful delivery, through multiple successful product release cycles. You will be able to prove your ability to collaborate and communicate well, with the team, local and remote peers, and senior leadership. You will not only be passionate about creating reliable and maintainable systems, but also motivated to develop high-performance teams through mentorship.

In this specific role, you will manage a team of software engineers responsible for inferring factual information about products in Amazon's catalog in order to power product discovery and search, as well as a variety of features across Amazon's customer experience (e.g. we are the reason customers see all available sizes and colors of a product together on a single product page). Our work is characterized by advanced Machine Learning techniques (deep neural networks), high scale, complexity, and a constant need for innovation.

You will be responsible for everything from business ideas through to technology, software engineering and operations. You and your team will be accountable for running the systems you build, continually inventing new features.

Key job responsibilities

· Thinking big and working with executive leadership and business stakeholders to define strategy and roadmap.

· Management and execution against roadmap, project plans and delivery commitments

· Owning all metrics around initiative goals you will define. We make decisions based on data.

· Responsible for the overall systems development life cycle

· Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team

· Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team

· Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach

· Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
