Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. In this position, you will be a valuable member of the FPGA software team responsible for bridging software needs and establishing an automated continuous integration and continuous deployment pipeline for the FPGA satellite networking system.

Key job responsibilities

  • Foster continuous collaboration with various FPGA teams at Kuiper to automate the build, test, and deployment pipelines.

  • Develop software solutions to effectively manage the infrastructure required for secure, large-scale operation of our system.

  • Take ownership of the complete software development lifecycle, encompassing design, testing, deployment, and mission integration.

  • Engage in end-to-end participation in major engineering projects, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Take the lead in identifying and resolving software architectural deficiencies, and facilitating the delivery of higher-quality software at an accelerated pace, enabling faster iterations towards the right solution.

  • Effectively communicate your ideas to achieve optimal outcomes for both your team and the customer. Encourage diverse perspectives and incorporate feedback to enhance results.

  • Drive the adoption of software best practices, including security, quality, and operational excellence.

A day in the life

As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the advancement of Kuiper's FPGA automation capabilities. This entails the development of products that facilitate reliable and high-speed communication with Kuiper satellites, supporting their mission-critical operations. Collaborating with a skilled cross-disciplinary team, you will contribute to the development, testing, production, and worldwide implementation of solutions and products that empower Kuiper's expansive global network.

About the team

The FPGA Software team is currently seeking a skilled DevOps engineer with a background in constructing CICD infrastructure and SDLC pipelines for satellite software deployed on proprietary hardware. This role involves working with diverse test equipment to oversee the development of efficient and automated builds, as well as implementing CICD functional testing for satellite systems. Your technical proficiency will be instrumental in ensuring the successful execution of spacecraft validation processes and establishing a reliable framework for integrating and launching thousands of satellites. Your contributions play a key role in charting the path towards a robust and seamless satellite deployment process.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience in building automated build and testing frameworks, tools, and services for embedded software or hardware development.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
