Amazon Software Development Manager, Project Kuiper in Redmond, Washington

Have you wanted an opportunity to lead an embedded software team in an advanced satellite broadband telecom service?

The Kuiper Customer Terminals Software teams build and maintain the core software that powers the customer terminals on the Kuiper network. The team is highly cross functional and is responsible for low level device drivers, secure manufacturing, MAC and PHY interactions, data plane, control plane and network communications. The team traverses the entire OSI model and works across L1-L7 layers.

This role is for a software development manager in Kuiper who will be responsible for driving roadmap, requirements and technical design across embedded SW components. You will work with your customers, partners to refine requirements, understand constraints, hiring & growing your team and iteratively delivering value to our customers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Work with our peer teams and customers to design suitable software systems and interfaces.

  • Develop a strategic plan for the growth of the team, both from a software services and organization perspective.

  • Hire & Develop a diverse team of software engineers.

  • Aid in the design of mission critical systems in Project Kuiper.

  • Collaborate with your fellow team members to form a strong foundation for a software organization in Project Kuiper

  • Help on-board and mentor new team members.

About the team

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of engineering team management experience

  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience in full stack networking

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering team management experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
