Amazon's Reliability, Maintenance, and Engineering (RME) team is hiring for a Sr Sys Dev Engineer of Automation Engineering to join our corporate-based engineering team.

The candidate will be a subject matter expert in controls systems, workplace safety, and data driven management and leadership. The role will involve material handling equipment (MHE) systems/applications, packaging automation, distribution processes, and storage systems. The candidate will manage multiple complex projects and simultaneously influence and develop relationships at all organization levels.

Key job responsibilities

• Coordinate and plan work activities for the Control Systems Engineers to accomplish goals and objectives of North America Customer Fulfillment teams.

• Work closely with building Operations, Operations Engineering, fulfillment center (FC) Start up Team, Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) Software teams, Amazon Customer Excellence Systems (ACES) team, and Safety in supporting MHE systems optimization and project implementation.

• Understand, maintain, and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including programmable logic controller (PLC)/personal computer (PC) controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.

• Monitor MHE metrics and partner with maintenance/operations for system performance issues and provide analysis across all operations.

• Develop tools to help troubleshoot equipment quicker

• Visit sites and help train and monitor standard work of controls engineering

• Optimize and tune equipment for maximum throughput

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience identifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, programming, and designing human machine interface (HMI) and control network components.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electrical theory, Robotics, Controls components, automated equipment.

  • Experience identifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying Motor Controls including motor starters, Variable Frequency Drives, direct current (DC) drives, and standard electrical components.

  • Industrial electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting, including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.

  • Experience interpreting, modifying, and developing mechanical and electrical drawings

  • Experience identifying, maintaining, and utilizing SCADA systems and key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Familiarity with programming software such as RSLogix5000 studio, FT View, and other controls software platforms.

  • Familiarity with Robotics work cells and its control systems. Systems integration, field service, systems trainer, or training experience.

  • Experience with advanced automation controls systems, industrial robotics, and supporting a wide range of conveyors.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
