Amazon Water Stewardship Lead - Spain, EMEA Energy & Water in Madrid, Spain

Amazon is looking for a results-oriented individual to join the AWS water infrastructure team. In this role, you will work with external stakeholders to identify, develop and implement a pipeline of projects that advance water stewardship across AWS’s water infrastructure footprint. You will be responsible for the development of the water infrastructure projects from conception to completion, delivering improvements and supply risk reduction with stakeholders. The role will largely focus on the delivery of projects outside the fence in catchments where water related risks have been identified. The role will additionally be responsible for the tracking and reporting of inside the fence water related improvements in-flight and provide a centralised point of contact for the EMEA Water team on reporting sustainability and stewardship needs.

You will develop projects and business cases for projects and driving business alignment with the AWS Water Positive goal. You will develop detailed business cases, project schedules and risk registers, coordinate with the local project lead, ensure that projects have the resources required for delivery, and communicate results to leadership. You will also be directly responsible for delivery of multiple projects, project managing them concurrently and contributing to the larger EMEA portfolio.

Key job responsibilities

The Water Stewardship Lead will be responsible for the following:

• Create, manage and own the regional water stewardship strategy for the Spain region

• Work with regional stakeholders to identify, develop, obtain approvals and deliver infrastructure projects to address water related business risk in the catchment area related to availability or water quality.

• Execute comprehensive water infrastructure delivery program to meet AWS water sustainability goals in Spain and support delivery across EMEA.

• Continuously update detailed project schedules, risk registers, and budgets.

• Lead a monthly review of project schedules and risk registers and highlight key blockers and risks to team leadership.

• Lead monthly budget reviews with finance and public policy.

• Identify and develop cost savings opportunities related to delivery of sustainable water infrastructure.

• Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.

• Improve reporting and delivery of EMEA Water team sustainability and optimisation projects through the Water Positive reporting structures

• Contribute to the consolidation, improvement and development of the EMEA Water Stewardship strategy and program in line with business need and risk reduction.

• Travel (30-40%) as needed for project development and delivery across Spain. Some EMEA wide travel is additionally anticipated.

• Multiple European languages a plus.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in water, water resources, environmental science, hydrology, sustainability, engineering, environmental studies, or related discipline

• 8+ years demonstratable experience in water system planning, water management consulting, operations management, strategy, project management, ESG, or business-related roles OR

• Demonstrated experience with corporate water sustainability efforts, including reduction and replenishment activities and driving the development of cross-company water management plans

• Understanding and experience in the strategic development of water solutions with stakeholders

• Awareness of water catchment management, climate change and water stewardship principles/methodologies

• The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills and ability to recommend actionable decisions with limited data.

• Proven record of accomplishment for cultivating strong relationships with diverse set of external stakeholders and ability to communicate key messages to leadership

• Analytical mindset that can identify gaps in requirements during project development, predict performance, and have the ability to provide recommendations on a short notice and with limited information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Business related field and/or strong experience in production of project business cases and execution of strategic plans.

• Additional European languages well regarded.
