Amazon Front End Engineer, Amazon Optics in Herndon, Virginia

Description

The Amazon Optics team is looking for a Front End Engineer who will join the team builds and manages services that are used by AWS employees to secure our physical sites. Our services allow our customers to protect AWS locations and preserves the trust that all AWS users have in us. You’ll work with other engineers every day that are as passionate as you are about building systems that are an essential tool for our customers in keeping AWS sites secure! The services you build are used around the world to secure assets for every single AWS customer! Your solutions will impact our customers directly!

This job requires you to constantly hit the ground running and your ability to learn quickly and work on disparate and overlapping tasks will define your success. High Impact production issues often require coordination between multiple Development, Operations and IT Support groups, so you get to experience a breadth of impact with various groups.

The ideal candidate is proactive, responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. They have a combination of in-depth knowledge of computer science principles and how to create a user interface that is efficient, scalable and user friendly. They demonstrate creative approaches to building services which expose usability and functional defects in production level code at the API, component, feature and UI integration levels. FEEs at Amazon are expected to have industry-leading technical abilities that enable them to significantly improve product quality. You will have the opportunity to experiment, innovate and deliver in a fast, agile and reliable manner with high quality and low technical debt. You should be passionate about building, improving and championing the product and a strong sense of ownership is a must.

Key job responsibilities

• You design software solutions to enable new features or improve software. You may still require guidance from your team’s leadership to ensure your designs are in alignment with your team’s long-term architectural strategy.

• You work on difficult problems with visible risks or roadblocks. You bring clarity to problems and identify simple designs for solutions.

• You are active in the code review process on your team, providing meaningful feedback to others, including those who are more senior.

• You work with customers, stakeholders (such as UX design and product), and peers to understand the business and customer value of your team’s software in order to ensure you deliver the right solutions.

• You are active in operational support for your team, and ensure that the root causes of operational issues are identified and mitigated / resolved. This might include a change not only to the code, but also the UX. You don’t settle for the status quo, and routinely identify and execute on opportunities to improve your team’s operations.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional front end development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional front end, web or mobile software development using JavaScript, HTML and CSS experience

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building scalable, distributed, front-end experiences

  • Experience with common front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JS, TypeScript, and Node

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
