AWS Support is a self-standing business (P&L) within AWS and continues to be one of AWS’s fastest and most innovative businesses. Kumo is AWS Support’s technology arm. Kumo builds the technology that enables AWS Support to scale across 200+ (and growing) AWS services and 1,000s of AWS features launched annually. Kumo’s technology platforms and products are leveraged by over 10K support engineers, technical account managers, and support associates, as well as Solution Architects and service team SDEs.

Security is our highest priority within Kumo. Kumo is investing in preventative, detective, and corrective security controls to cover an ever increasing surface area. We are looking for a Security focused Principal Technical Program Manager. This is a builder role, that requires: 1) deep analytical and problem solving skills as we encounter new use cases and constraints, 2) working with software engineering teams to build scalable technical security controls, 3) building processes and mechanisms to support the technology adoption. The role has constant exposure to executive leadership and requires excellent written and verbal communication.

Key job responsibilities

As a Principal Technical Program Manager (TPM) in Kumo, you will define/refine, own, and drive technical security programs that span multiple engineering teams and organizational boundaries. You will partner with product management and technical leadership to identify opportunities to simplify and automate the work done by engineering and operation teams to maintain customer privacy while raising Amazon’s security bar. You will adopt and adapt AWS Security wide initiatives/guidelines and ensure Kumo’s adherence to them as/where needed, while looking for opportunities to enhance them. You will help identify new areas of investment and work to align other group's security and engineering roadmaps to deliver on these opportunities and optimize delivery outcomes.

As a technical leader, you will influence strategy and outcomes across organizations. You will need strong business judgment and acumen as well as strong writing skills, being comfortable leading executive-level reviews while diving deep into data. You will work in a collaborative, analytical, and fast-paced environment, and must be comfortable interacting with highly technical cross-functional teams. This role requires a strong ability to communicate, influence, and earn the trust of software engineers, technical, and business leadership.

A day in the life

  • Security Engagement and Ownership, operating as an owner, drive security programs and campaigns across the organization, security up-skilling our engineering community.

  • Developer Engagement, focused on pre/post design and near-code release, subscribing to the Application Security "shift left" mentality.

  • Champion the implementation of cutting-edge security technologies that not only protect customers but also enhance their interactions with our products and services.

  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure security measures adhere to relevant regulations and standards, while minimizing impact on customer experiences.

  • Assess and manage security risks, proactively identifying potential vulnerabilities and designing mitigation strategies that align with business goals.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities to leverage advancements in security to create innovative customer experiences.

  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of new tools, techniques, and methodologies that enhance security while maintaining seamless customer interactions.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • 5+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years working with internal and/or external customers to launch security related programs, products or services (within the last 8 years)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on work managing complex technology projects experience

  • 5+ years of experience on and/or knowledge of computer security – threats, controls, best practices

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $159,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $275,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
