The Connected Talent Management System team, part of Global Talent Management & Compensation (GTMC) is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to join the engineering team in Edinburgh as part of a strategic investment to build technology that will enable Amazon to adopt the most scientific approach to talent management. Our team builds intelligent solutions that offer a consumer-grade user experience and uses science to evaluate and manage performance of Amazon’s talent base of more than a million employees. Our engineering team’s scope include but not limited to user experience design, micro-service development, micro front-end development, big data engineering and machine learning. In GTMC we are building intelligence that will enable Amazon to retain its unique "Day One" company culture whilst continuing to grow its talent base.

As a Senior Software Developer you will join a team of engineers to lead the design and development of product and services that implement the Connected Talent Management team’s 3 year vision. If you are passionate about architecting website solutions that scale at large and perform at high availability using native AWS technologies, this opportunity is for you. As part of this team, you will contribute to full stack software development and follow agile software development lifecycle of design, development, documentation and testing through launch to resolve ambiguous customer problems. You will collaborate within and across organisation to invent and simplify solutions to Amazon’s hardest problems on measuring, managing and maintaining the performance of its workforce.

Key job responsibilities

  • Invent and architect a modern, mobile-first website experience and services using native AWS technologies.

  • Exert technical vision and build highly scalable, architecturally sound solutions that are aligned with business needs.

  • Define and raise technical standards across the organization while working on Amazon’s hardest problems

  • Tech lead, coach and mentor junior engineers on the team

  • Deep dive on technical issues that can span across many different areas of ownership

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in professional, non-internship software development

  • Experience in development in the last 3 years

  • Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
