AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

The RDS Platform at Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Software Development Engineer II to build, deliver, and maintain complex products that delight our customers and raise our performance bar. You’ll design fault-tolerant systems that run at massive scale as we continue to innovate best-in-class services and applications in the AWS Cloud.

The Amazon RDS team is looking for a Software Development Engineer to lead the RDS Host Provisioning and RDS Networking team to innovate new cloud infrastructure for internal customers on a massive distributed system architecture that supports one of the largest managed database fleets on the planet.

This space is on an accelerated trajectory of high-growth and will offer you regular interactions with upper-management and clear opportunities for career advancement. You will be responsible for rethinking the assumptions behind how traditional database services were built and thinking how to build database services that operate seamlessly in customer's on-premises network and in the cloud. This is an area that requires solving the hardest engineering challenges in distributed systems and networking at massive scale and have a significant bottom-line impact on the RDS business and competitive position.

A successful candidate in this role will have the experience and skill needed to set a strategic vision for the future, provide the team technical guidance, innovate in terms of developer experience and bring operational efficiency.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

• Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
