The Worldwide Sustainability (WWS) organization capitalizes on Amazon’s scale and speed to build a more resilient and sustainable company. We manage our social and environmental impacts globally, and drive solutions that enable our customers, businesses, and the world to become more sustainable.

The Sustainability Measurement & Abatement Technology team builds technical solutions to track, record, and forecast Amazon's WW impact on the Environment (i.e., Carbon, Water, Waste, etc.). This includes calculating past and current impacts and future abatement plans, ensuring credibility through standards and validations, and highlighting non-obvious opportunities for Amazon’s global business teams.

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to build and scale our data architecture to support Amazon's sustainability roadmaps.

Key job responsibilities

  • Work with a team of highly skilled software, data teams, and scientists to invent, design, and build highly stable and performant software

  • Work with internal customers to balance customer requirements with team requirements to help the team and business evolve

  • Collaborate with leaders of partner teams developing sustainability and social responsibility systems

  • Design and implement data architecture best practices

  • Ideate and scale data systems to support the measurement of Amazon's Social and Environmental impact on the world

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience working on and delivering end to end projects independently

  • Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions

  • Experience with non-relational databases / data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases)

  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
