Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Center Civil Engineering Manager to join its design team. As a Data Center Civil Engineering Manager at AWS, you will lead Civil Engineering designs for Amazon Data Centers. You will be part of a global engineering leadership team, comprised of highly effective Architects, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Control Engineers. AWS engages multi-disciplinary engineering teams for all capacity delivery projects. This unique vantage point allows the managers to maintain a broad knowledge of data center design and development of staff. You will have impact on the design innovation and ability to improve data center construction for an entire region, while establishing quality control procedures and protocols for the development of this engineering practice.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. Key job responsibilities

• Leading a team of civil engineers in the design of data center critical infrastructure systems

• Facilitating weekly meetings with staff, resource planning, evaluating external consultants, addressing design issues and be responsible for the quality of civil engineering designs.

• Drive process improvements within your team

• Lead design standardization, Basis of Design updates, prototype design development, and template specifications development for physical security elements and effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.

• Collaborate with other design disciplines and security organizations within AWS to develop design standards, evaluate cost, risk and benefits of designs and facilitate design discussions.

• Manage our external civil design consultants through the Data Center design and construction process. Reviewing vendor provided designs for site layout, grading, power substations, storm water, utilities, and pavement.

• Create, review, and release design RFPs for various projects, including DCs and special program facilities.

• Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency. Effectively communicating with Leadership and Finance partners.

• Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with authorities having jurisdiction. Anticipated travel is approximately 25%.

Basic Qualifications

• Professional Engineering License

• 10+ years professional experience in commercial, warehouse, and/or industrial site-civil design experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• ABET accredited BS in Civil Engineering

• 4+ years’ experience in civil design for Data Centers or Telecom facilities with working knowledge of building codes, regulations, and standards including IBC and ASCE.

• Demonstrated ability to manage engineering professionals

• Demonstrated ability to evaluate the design and constructability of site design by third-party consultants.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple fast paced projects simultaneously.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $135,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $233,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
