Amazon's delivery app is the system that collaborates with crowd-sourced and third party delivery partners to complete deliveries for many of Amazon's programs. Our mobile application works in concert with our advanced logistics systems and predictive analytics. These technologies allow delivery partners to onboard, schedule delivery times in advance or on demand, and be guided through their deliveries with in-app mapping, navigation, and much more. Our ability to engage with, support and provide a best in class experience to both customers and our delivery partners has become more critical as we continue to expand the number of delivery partners and target faster deliveries to our customers.

Our Technology group is responsible for designing and implementing software that makes the delivery of these items possible in one hour or less. We are building software that navigates the Amazon delivery drivers from doorstep to doorstep executing on the speedy delivery promise in a cost effective manner. You will work on real-time adaptive solutions, navigation algorithms and its optimizations, map visualization, large scale datasets, and more. We are looking for talented SDEs to design and build these new systems. You will work on hard problems at scale and will have autonomy to deliver.

Our engineers are top-notch software developers who love listening to the customers, working as a team, and proactively taking the lead whenever necessary. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and delivering software solutions for the new program. In this role, you will have an opportunity to own design and development of key parts of the mapping and navigation solution. You will have influence on subsystem design and help build a team culture around practices that are critical to a quality.

We are looking for someone with a go-getter attitude who is ready to own a problem and passionately drive successful implementation. We want someone who is a quick learner and ready to learn and adopt the latest techniques in computer science.

Key job responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of key system features.

  • Will work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility.

  • Will work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software against aggressive schedules.

  • Will establish architectural principles, select design patterns and then mentor team members on their appropriate application.

About the team

As part of the Maps Experience Foundations group you will be responsible for building some of the foundational pieces that delivery a maps and navigation experience for drivers. From building visual map tiles for the entire world, to delivering map content for offline use, you will be building state of the art and novel mapping solutions. You will be architecting and designing mapping solutions for scale and will be partnering with some of the best map providers across the globe to deliver a delightful experience for Amazon drivers operating in different countries.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
