Description

The open source technical program manager works closely with open source project communities, engineering teams, and product management. As a member of the Open Source Strategy & Marketing (OSSM) team you will be responsible for making key open source projects successful by working with cross-functional teams. In addition, a technical program manager will own communicating progress to a cross organizational executive audience representing stakeholders across AWS.

Key job responsibilities

Develop appropriate schedule, milestones, and resource requirements to be successful.

Drive multiple open source initiatives simultaneously.

Drive and track readiness for key milestones as well as project related builds.

Utilize your experience in open source communities to identify technical risks and define mitigation plans.

Drive the team towards making timely decisions.

Drive the development and creation of key processes for new open source projects.

Maintain relationships with open source contributors, key external stakeholders, and open source foundations, drive innovations in processes and identify opportunities to improve quality and community health.

About the team

The Open Source Strategy and Marketing (OSSM - pronounced “awesome”) team includes veterans that have worked for some of the industry’s top open source companies and foundations. Based on this open source experience, we help service teams, the field, and others effectively engage with open source constituencies: project communities, media and analysts, and social media.

Our mission is to help AWS deliver on two, tightly linked objectives: 1) to significantly increase the scope and value of our open source involvement and 2) to help customers and communities learn about our involvement and understand why it matters.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • 3+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience

  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent

  • History of contribution in open source projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $197,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
